Lake Kabetogama-Ash River Fishing Report
Ice conditions are improving daily. The last major forecasted snowstorm was a bust and was a blessing as it allowed the lake to seal up nicely and start making some navigable ice. Portables are starting to show up off the Kabetogama visitor center area and to the SE towards Sphunge Island and Duck Bay. Anglers are reporting good success for jumbo perch and walleye. Foot travel and light machines only are advised and always check with the Park Service (Facebook and website page) with the most up to date ice conditions. Please don’t venture out without good knowledge of where you are heading.
As for spear fishing, it has been fantastic! Some are saying the best they have had in years. Tom Cod Bay is producing numerous pike with many trophy’s already this year. The spear houses are seeing lots of fish and no one is going home disappointed. If you are fishing the Tom Cod area give Sandy Point a call for the most up to date reports. As you can see by the pictures, it has been phenomenal. Gordon will put you on the fish!
